Vernon L. Gordon III is the lead pastor of The Life Church located in Richmond, VA. The Life Church was launched in July of 2015. As a cancer survivor, Vernon endured two tumors, twelve surgeries, three years of chemotherapy, and numerous complications throughout treatment. This experience would become the catalyst to his focus on outreach and community development.
Prior to church planting, Vernon served as the youth pastor and worship pastor of Spring Creek Baptist Church. Simultaneously, he served as the campus pastor of Virginia Commonwealth University. During this time he was selected to serve on a two year national initiative called NEXT, designed to both train and empower the next generation of church innovators.
In addition to pastoring, Vernon is a member of Faith Leaders Partnership which meets monthly with local law enforcement to find new ways to bridge the gap between community and policing. He is a member of the International Youth Development team of Lott Carey global missions network and apart of the 2017 Lott Carey leadership cohort “Leading the Lott Carey Way”. He is also the founder of UniqueWalk Inc., an outreach network designed to expose youth and young adults to the joy in serving others.
Most recently, Vernon was named one of I-Power 92.1’s “Top 30 Under 30” for his community influence. In the fall of 2015, Vernon released his first book, “In The Beginning: A healthy start to a strong finish”. This work addresses 10 foundational principles of faith development and is designed to give readers practical insight on growing in their Christian journey.
Vernon attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he majored in Clinical Exercise Science. And in 2013 he obtained his Masters in Divinity from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Vernon is married to Ashley Gordon and has two children, Madison and Jackson.
